On-screen hero Alex O'Loughlin, of Hawaii Five-O fame, experienced a terrifying ordeal this week as his house was threatened by a fiery explosion.

"We heard a boom and his garage door blew off and we saw the smoke," his neighbour Muriel Lighter told Hawaii News Now reporters. "We were running back and forth (yelling) 'get out of the house.'"

Luckily the actor was not home when the fire started and it was contained within 20 minutes. And while there is an estimated $110,000 in damage to the garage and its contents, it seems there was no damage to the actual house.

"The first company arriving found smoke and flame coming out of the garage," says Honolulu Fire Department spokesman Capt. Terry Seelig.

O'Loughlin shares the Diamond Head home with his girlfriend Malia Jones, their 14-month-old son Lion and two older children from past relationships.
