All Rise for Lana Del Rey’s ‘National Anthem’

By KATE MORAWETZ

Lana Del Rey released her video for "National Anthem" this week and it’s a little bit trippy. Lana and her co-star, Drake favourite A$AP Rocky, play out the ill fated love story between Jackie Kennedy and JFK in the alternate dimension '60s-themed Anthony Mandler-directed video.

It’s “some cool trippy sh*t, some real 2015 sh*t. People are going to get it in three years and that’s the whole purpose of it,” Rocky tells HipHopDK of the video that doesn’t actually feature the rapper.

Lana is known for her somber, twisted videos and this one is no different. The singer not only plays Mrs. Kennedy in the video, seen through Jackie's eyes, but she also tests out her chops as the third wheel of the famous love triangle... Marilyn Monroe. She opens with the infamous “Happy Birthday Mr. President”, but without Marilyn’s signature blonde bob.

This isn’t the only time we’ll see Rocky and Lana together, since the two have also been collaborating on a joint track called “Ridin". The new song is expected to be featured on Long Live A$AP Rocky’s new album due out in the fall.
