WATCH: Ann Curry Announces She's Leaving 'Today'

By

A visibly upset Ann Curry finally confirmed on-air on Today this morning the rumours that have been circulating for months - that she's leaving her post as regular co-host of the iconic morning show (watch below).

"This is not easy to say, but this is going to be my last morning as a regular co-host of Today," Curry announced, already in tears.

"This is not as I expected to ever leave this couch after 15 years but I'm so grateful - especially to all of you who watched. You are the real Today show family. You are why I've ventured into dangerous places, interviewed dictators, jumped off planes, off of bridges and landed in the South Pole. I have loved you, I have wanted to give you the world, and I still do."

Curry also confirmed that she will still be working with NBC News, but in a different capacity - she will be taking on a new role as NBC News National and International Correspondent/Anchor and Today Anchor at Large. In her new role, Curry will report for all platforms of NBC News including Today, NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams, Rock Center with Brian Williams and Dateline.

"I will still be a part of the Today show family, just with a new title and a new role," she said.

Curry's co-hosts also looked to be emotional during the big announcement.

"You have the biggest heart in the business," Matt Lauer told Curry. "You put it on display every day in this studio and you have, for what, 20 years on this show? The way you care about people comes through in every single story you report."

But Curry did acknowledge that her stint on Today didn't go exactly as planned.

"For all of you, who saw me as a ground-breaker, I'm sorry I couldn't carry the ball over the finish line but I did try. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for letting me touch yours. I will keep trying."

NBC has yet to announce who will be replacing her.
