Tim McGraw Speaks Out About His In-Concert Slap & Tabloid Rumours
ET Canada was in attendance for Tim McGraw's rollicking concert at Toronto's Molson Ampitheatre on Sunday night. The country megastar has embarked on a major run of live dates ahead of the release of his upcoming studio album Sundown Heaven Town.
Although the Toronto concert was its own special occasion, questions lingered concerning an incident that occurred at a tour stop the week before. McGraw provided his side of the story regarding that highly publicized piece of video where he swatted at a grabby fan during his Atlanta show last Sunday.
"Sometimes things can lose context and perspective. I reacted in an instinctive, defensive way from my perspective of what was going on," offered the Grammy winner on the incident. "I think it was an unfortunate situation I think all the way around. But it happened, it happened in a split second, it was pure instinctive reaction, I think you just got to move on. It is one of those things that happen, nobody feels good about it, but there’s nothing that could be done about it. You are in that position, you are out there, you are vulnerable, things happen and sometimes you react. There’s nothing to be said about it."
McGraw also spoke about what it's like to be a target of the tabloids and deal with constant "Tim McGraw & Faith Hill headed for divorce" rumours.
"The only time it becomes something, it doesn't upset me but it makes me take pause, is when you have kids and when your kids see something in a supermarket line or they hear something from their friends," explained the singer. "Look, since we've been together, we've been getting divorced the next year. we're used to it. we don't pay that much attention to it."
Be sure to tune in to ET Canada tonight for our complete coverage of Tim McGraw's visit to Toronto. McGraw's new album Sundown Heaven Town (which includes the Tim & Faith duet "Meanwhile Back at Mama's") arrives in stores on September 16.
