Kathryn Bigelow Talks Oscar Buzz
If Kathryn Bigelow's new film Zero Dark Thirty is garnering Oscar buzz, the Academy-Award winning director is choosing not to think about it. The movie stars Jessica Chastain as a CIA officer who gets a lead on the whereabouts of Osama Bin Laden and is based on real life events.
"Personally what motivates me is a great, great story and you know...a story like this...the greatest man hunt in history doesn't come along very often," the director said.
Kathryn's already picked up some hardware for the film, winning the New York Film Critics Circle Award for Best Director, but the humble filmmaker maintains the real heroes are the men and women behind her story: "It's sort of the story of a lifetime and even as important as that are the characters and the people that a represented in the film."
Now not everyone is giving Kathryn's new film similar praise. Bret Easton Ellis, director of The Canyons and regular Twitter blaster had some thoughts about the new film, claiming critics favour her because of her gender. "Kathryn Bigelow would be considered a mildly interesting filmmaker if she was a man, but since she's a very hot woman she's really overrated," he said.
