Matt Damon's 'Magic Mike' Oscar Prediction

By

"The law says you cannot touch! But I think I see a lotta lawbreakers up in this house tonight!" Could these lines delivered by a shirtless Matthew McConaughey on a stripper stage in Magic Mike be the ones to secure him Oscar gold? Matt Damon thinks so. "I think he's going to get nominated for an Oscar and probably might win one," the Bourne star tells David Letterman on his latest stop to promote his project, Promised Land.

Matt, who's been nominated three times himself and won an Academy Award for writing Good Will Hunting, isn't the only one who thinks the magic of exotic dance club owner Dallas will seduce associations. "The New York Film Critics gave him the Best Supporting Actor Award. From all the film critics in New York, it's a big deal!" the actor tells the Late Show audience. "He's hysterically funny, it's tragic and wonderful. I'm serious, it's a great performance."

Over the past few years, McConaughy said good-bye to the romcom genre to pursue more meaty roles in films like Killer Joe, Mud and The Paperboy. While some of these darker roles created their own awards buzz, it now seems it's the beefcake adventure directed by Steven Soderbergh and inspired by Magic Mike co-star Channing Tatum's real-life stripping experience that could help him seal the deal.

So how does Damon think his old pal will react if he wins? Putting on his best McConaughy impression he says: "I figure if I was going to get nominated for an Oscar, I'd just take my shirt off." Watch Matt's Oscar prediction in the video below.
